In this fifth episode of our podcast, we introduce one of the founders of Sixtrum, Kristie Ibrahim. Kristie musical life has has a special course. Born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, she completed her undegraduate studies in percussion at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia amd then joined Strike percussion ensemble in New-Zealand and stayed there for two years before returning to Montreal

She then went to MacGill University to complet a Masters Degree with percusionnist D'Arcy Philip Gray, and after a few years joined Sixtrum.

Drumming by Steve Reich: a percussionist's dream

Considered as one of the fathers of the minimalist movement in music, Steve Reich developped during the 60s and 70s composition processes that reached their peak in Drumming, a major work requiring 9 percussionists, 2 singers and 1 piccolo flute.

In what way is Drumming considered a landmark? Firstly because it combines all of the processes particular to Reich's language:

My first encounter with videomusic

It is often difficult to place the exact origin of a project, or to indentify precisely its triggering element. It is usually quite diffuse and, when decisions are taken in a collegiate manner, like in Sixtrum, each and everyone has a story related to the project.
