La Tortue on Tour !

Sixtrum recently returned from a three-day whirlwind tour to New Brunswick with La Grande Tortue.  La Grande Tortue is a show for young people ages 3 - 12, written and created by Sixtrum with director Michel G. Barrette, in co-production with Jeunesses Musicales du Canada.

This tour took us first to Bathurst, NB where we played four concerts for 1200 students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 at the Richelieu Auditorium at Nepisiguit High School.  We had a fantastic support team there, notably Denise Ouellet who coordinated the performances, and two student lighting technicians who made sure the Tortue was always in the spotlight!  Special thanks to Jeremie and Randy!  During our time in Bathurst, the Tortue managed to make a quick trip to the beach and found some flat rocks (or "galettes" in French) to play on in other Sixtrum pieces (such as "De La Vitesse" by composer Philippe Leroux).

From Bathurst, we travelled on to Dalhousie, where we were welcomed to the Reinsborough School Auditorium by theatre technician Jean-Guy.  Here we played two concerts for 700 kids from Dalhousie and surrounding area.  Many thanks to Jean-Guy for coming in on his day off to work the lights while the lighting technician was on vacation!

We did lots of driving over five days, but we were excited to see the beautiful countryside between Montreal and northern New Brunswick.  Highlights from the road include seeing seven moose, and of course the ocean-side view!  We were thrilled to make so many new friends in Bathurst and Dalhousie, and we can't wait until La Grande Tortue returns to New Brunswick and PEI in the spring to continue Part Two of the Maritime tour.

Hope to see you there!
