Lights !

Videomusic and electronic percussion
Wednesday, January 19, 2011 - 8:00pm

Salle Claude-Champagne de l'Université de Montréal

Imagine a very large screen overlooking six musicians standing in a shaded area, each equiped with an electronic percussion interface, drum-pad or mallet-kat. Gripping images fly out, accompanied by strongly shaped electronic sounds, controled in their synchronicity by virtuoso performers.

Four works evolve, some using finely designed abstract images, others presenting more realistic scenes, all supported by original music scores, electronically energized. You are not in a movie theater, you are not listening  to an electonic music concert, you are experimenting a videomusic performance !

« Lights » is a videomusic show where the imaginary worlds of four Montreal creators meet: Jean Piché, Louis Dufort, Sylvain Pohu and Dominic Thibault.

The works presented next January 19 were all composed for Sixtrum, the first percussion ensemble exploring the world of electronic interfaces and video. These works rely on advanced digital techniques, some experimental, tested by the musicians throughout the creation process with the composers. Some even allow the musicians to take full control of the video during their musical improvisations.
