DE LA VITESSE

LE SCORPION
4 February, 2010, 8:00pm
Salle Claude-Champagne, University of Montreal
Martin Matalon has worked on various projects on the relationship between film and music, composing, in particular, scores for three films by Luis Bunuel. After Un chien Andalou comes L'Âge d'or, which inspired the composer to write a piece for six percussionists, piano and live electronics: Le Scorpion.
This concert, which synchronises the projection of the film with the execution of the live music on stage, will be presented as a coproduction with CIRMMT (Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Media, Music and Technology), as part of the series Live@CIRMMT.
This concert will also be presented as part of the 2009-2010 season of Le Vivier.
LA GRANDE TORTUE
28 March 2010, 11:00am
Sons et brioches series by Jeunesses Musicales du Canada, Piano nobile de la salle Wilfrid‑Pelletier
In collaboration with Jeunesses Musicales du Canada, Sixtrum has teamed up with director Michel G. Barette, to create an original show for young audiences: La Grande Tortue (The Big Turtle). This show has been created as “object theatre” where percussion instruments become characters alongside the percussionists. The main character in The Big Turtle is played by a hang – a percussion instrument in a form that resembles an animal… Generally inspired by indigenous legends, the tableaux of adventures of our turtle will be brought to life through original compositions and arrangements by members of the ensemble.
La Grande Tortue is a show for audiences of all ages, which will be presented throughout the year in primary schools and theatres in Toronto and the Montreal area. Although the show will be presented only in french this year, it will be translated in english for future presentations

FESTIVAL ELEKTRA
7 May, 2010
Usine C
The collaboration with Festival Elektra will be an occasion to discover another aspect of the relationship between images and music, with two premieres of hybrid works for video and music by Quebec composers Jean Piché and Sylvain Pohu. Artistic and technological research are of great importance in this project as the new works demand new techniques of coordination and synchronisation between the music and the images: As the percussionists play, they will be able to control the diffusion of the video images in real time.
